Two days a week from the beginning of March to the end of November.

Do you like building things? Then our Construction Skills course could be for you!

You'll be part of a team constructing a building from start to finish – learning many skills along the way.

What will I do?

You will be building a house or building for Big River Homes, based in Balclutha, who are generously sponsoring this course.  If you are attending school in Dunedin, you can apply for this course, and transport will be arranged.  

You will be involved in all aspects of the build, and will be learning construction skills and knowledge including the correct use of hand and power tools, materials used in building, and building site safety practices. 

This course is two days a week and is at Level 3. 

What could I do next?

Where could this take me?

  • Builder/Carpenter – constructing and maintaining buildings
  • Stonemason – turning rough stone blocks into structures like walls and buildings
  • Construction Manager – ensuring buildings are constructed according to agreed contracts
  • Quantity Surveyor – ensuring buildings are designed and completed within budget
  • Architectural draughtsperson – producing drawings used on-site by building contractors
