Otago Polytechnic students produce Pink-inspired donut

A pair of Otago Polytechnic students have designed a donut inspired by pop superstar Pink’s concert in Dunedin this weekend.

Described as an extravagant “freak” donut, reflecting Pink’s creative and extrovert personality, it will be sold from Otago Polytechnic’s Food Truck before and after the concert at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday.

Third-year Bachelor of Culinary Arts learners Sachien Budhia and Georgia Rhodes have developed food enterprise brand “Chocolate and Ginger”, providing bespoke food experiences that align with Dunedin events. These include Matariki celebrations and All Blacks rugby tests.

“We enjoy Pink’s music but our venture is more about taking the inspiration and opportunity from her coming to Dunedin to create a Pink-inspired donut as opposed to doing it because we’re fans of hers,” Sachien says.

“We want to wow our customers with the experience we provide.”

Says Georgia: “We’ll be offering three varieties of sweet donuts: a Pink-inspired passionfruit lemon meringue; salted caramel custard; and Bounty Bar (chocolate and coconut).

“As well as the sweet donuts we’ll be offering some ‘donut burgers’ for people who don’t have a sweet tooth.”

“Chocolate and Ginger” will be selling their donuts from Otago Polytechnic’s Food Truck from 5pm on Saturday. They will be parked on Anzac Ave outside L Block, about 200m west of Forsyth Barr Stadium.
