OPAIC is celebrating Māori Language Week this week in a number of ways.

We would love for staff to lead the way and participate by speaking te reo. Some ideas for lecturers are to welcome your class in Māori or write the date on the board in Māori.

All staff can encourage students to come to Level 8 on Thursday to weave a flax flower. Look for the Māori word of the day each day on the screens around campus. You could also encourage students to come to Room 101 and use the guide sheet to order a coffee from Student Success in Māori.

In addition to these initiatives, Dr Abbas Malik is working with his students to develop a Māori mobile app. The app shows Māori numbers alongside digits, so users can learn the numbers in te reo.
