Opening of The Hub plaque – H Block

 

The formal opening of The Hub and Mason Centre took place on 2 February 2016.  This was the first major commemorative event celebrating Otago Polytechnic’s 50th Anniversary.Distinguished alumnus Nigel Bamford, co-founder and Chief Executive of Dunedin based gas-fire manufacturing company Escea, unveiled the plaque and founding member of the 1966 Otago Polytechnic council, 101-year-old Dawn Ibbotson, cut the anniversary cake. 

A time capsule was also buried in the ground as part of the ceremony. The capsule contains future campus plans, 2016 Programme Guide, 2015 Annual Report, 2015 Māori Report, Research Report, USB containing Otago Polytechnic marketing videos and TV commercials, Otago Polytechnic 50th digital story, Otago Polytechnic wine, Otago Polytechnic T-shirt and pen, photo of Polykids children, and a 50th commemorative flyer.
